Welcome to the Wyoming State Geological Survey. Gold in Wyoming. Gold, the intrinsically valuable "royal metal," derives its value from the combination of its rarity and beauty along with its softness (2.5 to 3 on the mohs hardness scale), malleability, ductility, ease of alloying with other metals such as copper and silver, and its high resistance to corrosion and tarnish.
The Idaho cobalt belt is located about 40 km west of Salmon, Idaho in the northwestern United States. The most important deposit in the district is the Blackbird mine which produced copper-cobalt ore sporadically from the early 1900's until about 1960.
The Barrigão re-mobilized copper vein deposit, Iberian Pyrite Belt, southern Portugal, is located about 60 km south of Beja and 10 km southeast of the Neves Corvo ore deposit, in Alentejo Province. The deposit is structurally associated with a NE–SW striking fault zone inferred to have developed during late Variscan deformation.
Copper production in India is only about 2 percent of world copper production in view of its potential reserve limited to 60,000 km 2 (2% of world reserve) of which 20,000 km 2 area has been subject to exploration, as of 2012. But in production it is still within the first 20 countries of the world and also one of its largest importers in line with China, Japan, South Korea and Germany.

copper belt. Introduction THE WORLD'S COPPER is extracted chiefly from por-phyry copper deposits. The Yulong porphyry copper ore belt, eastern Tibet (Fig. 1A), is the largest belt of porphyry copper deposits in China. It is about 300 km long, and nearly 100 porphyry bodies occur in this ore belt (Fig. 1B). De spite intensive exploration
Nov 04, 2013· El Teniente copper mine, the world's sixth biggest, is located 80km south of Santiago in the Andes mountain range in Chile. It is also the largest underground copper mine in the world. El Teniente was estimated to contain 15.2Mt of fine copper (1,538Mt of ore grading 0.99% copper) at the beginning of 2013.
Some gold is also recovered as a by-product from copper deposits in the Deweras Group Sediments. The production of alluvial gold, present along all the major rivers draining the greenstone belts, has largely been the domain of illegal gold panners. SILVER. It occurs as native silver in association with other minerals such as gold, copper and lead.

located 110 km east of Springbok in the Northern Cape. It operates complex ore mining copper, lead, zinc and silver. The mine has been in existence since 1978 and is the only mine in South Africa producing copper concentrate, lead concentrate, zinc concentrate and silver contained in copper and lead concentrates. The mine processes 1.56 Mt/a
The Hattu schist belt is located in the western part of the Archaean Karelian domain of the Fennoscandian Shield. The orogenic gold deposits with Au-Bi-Te geochemical signatures are hosted by NE-SW, N-S and NW-SE oriented shear zones that deform 2.76-2.73 Ga volcanic and sedimentary sequences, as well as 2.75-2.72 Ga tonalite-granodiorite intrusions and diverse felsic porphyry dykes.
Malanjkhand Copper Project was inaugurated by Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi in 1980 and Hindustan Copper Limited started to exploit the copper ore through open pit mining. Geological Survey of India took systematic geological exploration at this deposit during 1969. Mining lease of the ore was granted to Hindustan Copper Limited in 1973.
